Psychobabble- Fact or Fiction?

31 07 2008

(Warning crude language and I am not a medical professional, so don’t stop any treatments without consulting your primary care provider)

If you walk up to someone and call them an asshole, they will get mad at you and call you an asshole.

If you ask someone if they are crazy, they will think about it until they are sure they are crazy.

According to the textbooks I should be taking medication for ADD, Bipolarism, Depression and Anxiety Disorder. Truth be told, I think I just need to talk it out, eat right and exercise a little more. The planet is going to hell in a hand basket, why in the fuck does everyone have to be labeled one way or the other.

If someone did a full analysis of my biochemistry, a full exam of my mental responses and then hand made a once a day tablet that would make me fully functional I might think about taking it. Say a medication is 99% effective and has perfect results in all those it effectively treats; If you prescribe that one medication to 4,000 people, that means that 40 people are not effectively being treated. Medications are not that efficient and they are prescribed to a larger group of people.

Hears a thought; take the college graduates out of the low paying jobs and put their minds to some use, and then take the homeless people and fill in the spaces in the low paying jobs. On the stance that more minds on problems would come to better conclusions. More people making money would stimulate the economy and people could afford a gym membership, a vacation, more advanced medications or a therapist.

A college roommate of mine told me something that took some time to think out, he was a little more crude then myself. ‘Fuck man, we are all just masturbating our lives away.’ He was right but ill phrased, ‘Look at us all, we stopped trying to make our lives better, we just focus on what gratifies us immediately.’ People looking for the easy way out tend to make more problems then they solve.

Instead of drinking and smoking away your problems, take a walk. Instead of getting angry in rush hour traffic, take the bus and read a book or walk if you can. Instead of watching porn go out on a few dates. Instead of eating to fill an empty spot or to curve your anxiety, do some sit ups, push ups or go for a walk. Instead of crying for no reason, write out what is bothering you and work to fix it. Instead of feeling alone call a loved one, if it is 3 am make sure to tell them why you are calling, if it is the middle of the day make small talk.

I am working on my problems and it goddamn sucks, but I can tell that they quality of my life is getting better.

You know what your problems are, go work on them.

I really like the way you look at what your roommate says. Every time I spend too much time playing video games I walk away feeling like I could have been doing more to make the world a better place.

I do the best I can to help people out, but sometimes I get in my own way. I use the blog to try and help people that I may never actually meet. For the most part it removes the stigmas and I have some time to think out what I am going to say.

Though I will admit, I have a lot more work ahead of me when it comes to thinking things out clearly and going back to correct my spelling and poorly constructed sentences.
